The amount of insulin needed to effectively control BG is dependant on many factors including body weight. The more overweight you are, the more insulin resistant you become, which translates to higher external insulin needs. It seems you are already using large amounts of insulin and if you are still seeing high levels of BG, you definetely need to look at other factors, including the amount of carbs you are eating in the diet, the location and technique of your insulin injecting site, and your exercise level. Regular exercise, will not only help you lose weight, but it will also lower the need for insulin by approx. 30%. By no means stop the insulin without consulting your doctor and weighing the options. On another note, has the doctor ever considered using Byetta? This is an injectable medication (it is not insulin), that not only has a positive effect of lowering blood sugars, it may actually also help you lose weight. Hope this answered your question!

Look up Dr. Bernstein (diabetic doctor).

My doctor (endocrinologist) prescribed 80 units of insulin per day - went from 115 to 165 pounds in 4 months.

Without my doctors help, I am down to 30 units and less per day - weigh 155 - still fat - working on it.

Most Doctors and dieticians are wrong - learn, learn, learn!!!
