I apologize for the delay in answering this question. An A1C is an average blood sugar test. 4-6 is the normal range. It is not considered a standard test for diagnosing diabetes although we know that if it is over 6 there is some level of glucose intolerance. The glucose tolerance test is diagnostic. Random or even fasting blood sugars may be normal but the glucose tolerance test shows your body's response to a specified amount of glucose. The 75 gm solution represents an average/usual amount of carbohydrates in a meal. The bottom line is that now you know and can monitor your blood sugars. Diabetes changes with time and you want to be sure you continue to have good blood sugar control to prevent complications. Be sure you are testing blood sugars fasting & 2 hours after meals. If they are always well controlled, you certainly don't need to ck 4 times a day every day. At least check daily and alternate times.
