Dear kittylion, When a person's blood sugar has been running at a higher level than the usual target for blood sugar readings, the body gets used to running at that level. When you suddenly lower it, people say they feel like they are having a low. When a blood sugar is taken, it is determined that they are not at the level we refer to as a "low blood sugar" which is 80 or 70 or below this level. I worked with a person who ran around 350 and he felt low if he got into the 200's. This is not healthy for his body and neither is running too high healthy for yours. Bringing the blood sugars down gradually, then keeping them in a good range is what I would recommend. High blood sugars increase your risk of having damage caused by diabetes.

It is very normal if your running in the 300 to feel low at 130. The body gets so used to high numbers it says hey the 300 is normal that 130 feels weird and it does. Normals should be much lower than that. If you get to normal you wont have this issue.

I was really curious to read the expert advice because my private care physician told me to aim for 130. I should have asked him why. I also knew someone who strive to keep hers at 150. I always liked to keep mine between 100 to 120. Maybe each body is different. When mine gets lower than that it is usually an indicator for me that it will quickly go into hypoglycemia. It really is important to find out what yours should be. I definitely felt very sick when mine would go into the 300s. I had trouble breathing and thinking. That definately scared me. I am glad that I can get mine down to 130. It has gotten harder with various med reactions. I know that numbers can go higher when you have an illness and are recovering. I am now on insulin and I definitely do not think of it as a failure. It helped me so very much. Maybe a dab more will help you get those numbers down just a little. Maybe that is something you can ask your professional care giver. I also hope that you can excercise a little now. Now if that worked it would be better than more insulin. It would be good for your heart too. *smile* Everything stated here is just my opinion and nothing more. Sally
