Hello policeofficer-
Medication is usually the way to reduce intraocular pressure. There are many eye drops . They are all prescription medications. Your Ophalmologist will discuss a treatment plan with you.

There is no special normal range for intracular pressure for people with Diabetes. The normal range for IOP is 10-21 mmHG.

Glaucoma is diagnosed is made by the doctor getting a patient history including any relatives with Glaucoma, and by evaluating other criteria including

  • Visual Acuity Test - using eye chart
  • Visual Field Test - testing if there is a problem with vision in any part of the field including periferal vision
  • Ophthalmoscopic Exam - dilating the eye and evaluating the retina and the optic nerve
  • Tonometry _ the pressure test for IOP
  • Pachymetry - to test the thickness of the cornea

These tests along with changes in vision will determine if the diagnosis of Glaucoma is made. People with Diabetes are at higher risk for Glaucoma.
