Androderm is a medicated patch that contains testosterone. It is prescribed to men who have low testosterone levels. Testosterone is necessary in the body to produce sperm, develop and maintain male body hair, a males deep voice, muscle mass and prevents bone loss. It is also necessary for sexual ability and desire. If you are deficient in testosterone you may experience low sexual desire, sexual dysfunction (inability to maintain erections), fatigue and low energy or depression.
You may not experience relief of these symptoms immediately as it is necessary to build your testosterone level back up. The androderm patch should be applied to a dry clean area of skin on your back, abdomen, upper arms or legs. It should be applied nightly at the same time. The site should be rotated . Do not place on the scrotum or on bony areas such as the shoulders or hips or an area of prolonged pressure as burn-like blisters have developed. The Androderm patch does not need to be removed during sexual intercourse or for showering or bathing. Skin burns have been reported at the site during an MRI procedure so it is necessary to remove the patch before having an MRI.
Side effects may include discomfort at the site, this usually resolves in time, other side effects include acne, headach, hair loss, anxiety or change in sexual desire. Serious side that may occur but are rare are: breast pain and enlargement, swelling of your feet or ankles, unusual weakness, trouble urinating, change in size or shape of testicles, mental or mood changes.
