Triglycerides (TG) are the scientific name for "fats" in our bodies. Fat from the diet will be converted into TG and stored if not used as energy. However, another important source of TG in our body is the excess carbohydrates from the diet. As a result, the surplus of available "glucose" will be converted into TG as well. The solution is not only to cut back on sources of fat, but also excess carbohydrates in the diet. Also, many studies have shown that including sources of Omega-3 Fatty acids in the diet, may help lower TG in the blood. Good sources of these are Fish (salmon, tuna) and Flax Seeds (ground or oil). If you are overweight, losing weight will also lower TG. In other words, eating healthy and exercising will not only help your BG control but also keep the TG levels in check!
