my husband has type 1 insulin based diabetes and he is worried he wont be able to have kids and he maintains an erection through the most part of intercorse and there is plenty of ejaculate.

Men with Type 1 diabetes are able to have children! I have several friends with Type 1 diabetes with happy and healthy children. There are many complications that are related to diabetes, but infertility is not typically one of them. Have you had difficulty conceiving a child? From your background information, it does not look like your husband is having issues relating to sexual function. If you are concerned, you can visit your health care provider and ask for a test that can measure his sperm count and viability.
