Dear apatterson9 Erectile dysfunction is a devastating complication of diabetes. Fortunately this complication is being discussed more and treatments are available. I would encourage you to have your husband discuss with his doctor what treatment options are available. You may also want to participate in this conversation. There are some medications - Viagra, Cilalis are the ones most commonly advertised. If these medications are not effective or are contraindicated in your husband’s condition his doctor can refer him to a urologist who specializes in this condition, there are some devices that may assist with obtaining and maintaining an erection. There also is an excellent book Sex & Diabetes by Janis Roszler and Donna Rice that provides a detailed explanation of this condition as well as information about the treatments available. I encourage you to seek treatment.
