Whenever blood sugar is not responding to the current treatment it is always advisable to return to the clinician for evaluation. Although Metformin along with weight loss is the standard initial treatment for someone with Type 2 diabetes, it is not the treatment for someone who is not producing insulin any more, either from Type 1 diabetes or from longstanding Type 2. From your description and minimal information, it appears that you need more insulin in your body. I see that your question was quite some time ago, so I hope that you have been evaluated and have made some changes in your treatment. Clinicians usually allow about 30 days to see if a new medication or treatment is having a positive effect on the body. If you do not see improvement in that time frame, then it is always a good idea to call you provider for a telephone consult or to make an appointment to review and change the treatment in the office. I hope you have found a regimen that is helping to bring your blood sugar under control.
