"Carbs vs Sugar free? When checking the nutrition info on candy the carbs are the exact same. Do i need to stick to sugar free vs regular? "

You've discovered something that many people are confused about. Sugar-free doesn't mean low-carb. It may mean fewer calories and it probably means less risk of tooth decay. But in terms of carb counting for blood sugar control, carbs are carbs, whether they come from something containing sugar or not.

Still learning things didn't know about the Sugar Alcohol under carbs. on sugar free foods.. I'm not diabetic but hubby is so trying to cook and eat healthy for him,

On sugar free products, which may be sweetened with Equal or Splenda, look at the nutrition facts. It may show the same carb count as regular sweet products. Under the carbs, you will see "sugar alcohol". Deduct this amount from the carb count. Then, the number you end up with will be the "net carbs" that your body will absorb. Some people may experience "gas", or diarrhea, if they eat too much of artificially sweetened products.

I am Type 2. I eat regular candy, cookies, cake, ice cream and my blood sugar is under excellent control. (My latest A1c was 5.3 and my doctor took me off my meds.) As long as I count my carbs and watch my portions, I'm OK. I also eat sugar-free cookies, which are fine, but I find with sugar-free candy I tend to overindulge.
