If your ulcer appeared to be healing and is now draining, you need to see your physician as soon as possible. It could mean you have developed an infection and this needs to be treated immediately. Poorly controlled blood sugars inhibit wound healing and make infections harder to control. Infections can cause blood sugars to increase and may require additional blood sugar medication in the process. If you have had the ulcer for an extended time - you may need a referral to a wound care center. Please see your physician without delay.
