"Where can someone go without health insurance to obtain a new insulin prescription in St. Louis, MO?"
Category:
Insurance and Financial Issues
Background Info Hide
I just moved recently and then lost my health insurance. I have switched over to the generic brand insulin that you can buy for cheap at walmart but I'm having a difficult time controlling my blood sugars since I had been on fast acting novolog. In the mean time, my insulin prescription has expired so I am unable to take advantage of cheaper mail order pharmacies.

First I would check at your local hospital and sign up for their medical clinic. When you make your first appointment, ask if they have a patient assistance program. Here in New Jersey we have a program called "The NJ Assistance program" . This program reimburses medical care to hospitals for people who are financially eligible and uninsured. Of course you may have to pay something as they have a sliding scale based on income. As far as tassistance with medication, please take a look at the following web link for the medication assistance program with Novonordisk the makers of Novolog.
http://www.novonordisk-us.com/documents/article_page/document/Patient_Assistance_DBM.asp
The Novo Nordisk Diabetes Patient Assistance Program (PAP) provides free medicine to those who qualify. If approved, a free 90-day supply of medicine will be sent to the prescribing health care providers’ office to be picked up at the patients’ convenience. Novo Nordisk will automatically contact the health care provider 90 days later to approve the medication refill.
What you need to do is follow these 3 simple steps to see if you qualify to obtain free diabetes medication from Novo Nordisk:
1) Fill out the patient section of the application
2) Gather proof of income
3) Take application and proof of income to your doctor to complete the Health Care Practitioner and Prescribing sections
You can also obtain more information and access to the program by calling the Novo Nordisk Patient Assistance Program toll free at 866-310-7549.
In the meantime, continue with the Relion brand from Walmart (which by the way is made by Novonordisk) until you find a physician and get approved by the Novonordisk patient assistance program.
Most pharmaceutical companies have patient assistance programs, so research on the web would be a helpful thing to do.
Another place to look for assistance on the web is:

I hope this was a helpful starting point.

If you are uninsured you can check out www.simplefill.com. It costs nothing to apply. Advocates will get all of your prescriptions for free and the only cost will be $65 a month..but nothing else.
