I usually tell people to eat their fruit and drink water to quench thirst! Fruit contains fiber and is best eaten its natural state. Juice, on the other hand, is the traditional quick-acting carbohydrate that people with diabetes use to treat low blood sugar episodes. They use it because juice is so good at quickly and dramatically raising blood sugar, which you don't want unless you're treating a low. That said, there are some good diet juices -- cranberry, grape -- that contain fewer carbs and are rich in antioxidants so can stand in for red wine and get you all those healht benefits you read about -- if you're not a red wine drinker.

V8 makes "SPLASH" that comes in a diet version with only 3 grams of carb per 8 oz glass. It comes in a berry blend as well as a citrus blend. It contains antioxidants and vitamins A,C, and E! You could just have 4oz and only consume 1 and 1/2 grams! :) My daughter is a type 1 so i am always on the look out for foods/drinks that taste good but low in carbs.

Too much juice is not good for blood sugars. Try sugarfree crystal light packets in a bottled water. It is tasty and a good drink for in between meals.
