Dear virtsma, The guidelines for Medicare coverage state that an individual with diabetes may receive up to 100 strips per month if they are taking insulin. However, if it is medically necessary your physician may request additional testing supplies. In your case on the insulin pump your physician would need to write on the prescription: the type of diabetes you have, that you are using insulin, how often you should test your blood glucose and how many strips and lancets are required for 1 month. If you have questions about your Medicare coverage for diabetic supplies call 1-800-633-4227.

Just remember it is always about the money. Being on the pump I would ask your doc to write a script detailing why it is so important for you to test more.
