Hello,

Metformin is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood glucose (sugar) levels.

Birth control pills (as with most hormones) can raise blood glucose levels. While on the pill, you may need to check your blood glucose more often. This way, you can determine if the present dosage of metformin is still controlling your blood glucose adequately.

Talk with your doctor about your concerns about taking best birth control pill. He or she knows your medical condition and can better determine the most appropriate medicine for you.

It is difficult to determine how high the birth control pill will increase blood glucose levels. Each person responds differently. If you find your blood glucose levels run consistently higher than before taking the pill, let your doctor know. He or she can review your treatment plan and adjust your medicine as needed.

Take care.
