Hi and thanks for writing dLife. Your question is a very good one, and there can be different reasons for your sensation of heaviness. Since you mention that this feeling occurs during rest, it would be a good idea to ask you doctor about a screening for sleep apnea, which is actually quite common in people with type 2 diabetes, especially men. Other risks for sleep apnea include snoring, fatigue during the day, and recent weight gain or the presence of obesity as well as high blood pressure. If sleep apnea is diagnosed, this is quite treatable by the use of a cpap machine, which is a mask that is worn during sleep connected to tubing which increases oxygen flow through your airway passages. Other treatments are also available which would be determined by your doctor. If this is not sleep apnea, it would be necessary for your doctor to determine the cause because there can be several medical issues that may be involved with your symptoms. Best of luck to you!
