Kim - Having Type 2 diabetes does not mean you should have difficulty getting pregnant, although severe insulin resistance is associated with infertility. Another condition often associated with Type 2 diabetes is polycystic ovary syndrome (often referred to as PCOS) and should be ruled out. Good control of your diabetes is always imperative before considering conception, as poorly controlled diabetes contributes to a higher incidence of birth defect and other complications of pregnancy. Should you have severe insulin resistance or PCOS, use of aggressive diabetes management protocols for improved control of your diabetes would increase your likelihood of conception.
