"I'm 59 and have been celibate for a number of years, until recently. Previously, in my late 40s, I had a very satisfying relationship. On this latest try at romance, not so satisfying. There is definitely an issue of thoughtless ineptitude on the part of my partner, leading to reduced opportunity to develop sensation. But I also wonder if diabetes could be a factor that should discourage me from being open to attmpting future relationships. Thanks. "

Diabetes may affect the ability of a male or female to experience sexual relations as well as they may have experienced sexual pleasure prior to developing diabetes. The good news is that your doctor or health care provider should have many suggestions to help you improve your satisfaction in this area. Nerve damage, which is a common condition in diabetes, can affect the blood flow to the sexual organs. This may cause a man to lose the ability to have an erection or for the sensations of sexual intimacy to be diminished. There are many prescription pills that can help many men achieve erections. Your physician will be aware of these medications and who is able to use these drugs safely. If pills aren’t an option, there are mechanical devices that can aid a male in having erections. If your physician doesn’t feel comfortable treating this problem, he/she can refer you to a specialist in urology. As you didn’t state your sex, I am providing general information. If you are a woman, you may wish to speak to a doctor who specializes in reproductive health or urology. There are brief articles on the dLife website discussing sexual intimacy. You may wish to read these prior to discussing options with your physician.
