Hello,

Thanks for asking dLife.

Diabetic neuropathy, also known as nerve damage, impacts most people who have diabetes. Neuropathy can occur where ever nerves are located. This means everywhere in the body!

The biggest risk factor for developing neuropathy is uncontrolled blood glucose levels. Unfortunately, the incidence of neuropathy in diabetes increases with time.

Although most nerve damage is considered permanent, you can prevent any further damage from occurring in the future. What can one do?

I recommend that you talk with a registered dietitian about establishing a personal meal and exercise plan to help better control your blood glucose (sugar) levels. He or she can also tell you how best to incorporate your favorite foods into your meal plan without having your blood glucose going high.

Take care.
