"Victoza and Metformin for a type 1"

type 1 with a1c of 5.7...15 lbs over weight(6'2" and 205)..i am currently taking humolog and lantus but with my goal to lose wieght my doctor want me to add victoza or metformin...will these help me lose weight? Are there complication or side effect? Is this normal or a type 1 to take take type II drugs to layer in? I have a hard time not eating a large load of carbs and controlling myself. My a1c is so good becasue i am very diligent with testing and adjusting insulin.

Although these drugs are used primarily in patients with type 2 diabetes, there is increasing evidence that they work well in type 1 patients. Even though it is considered an "off label" use, which means the drug company does not sanction these meds for type 1 patients due to lack of reliable studies, many doctors see improvement in their type 1 patients on these meds. Metformin may cause some weight loss, which is an added benefit. Metformin can also cause some stomach issues, but these usually go away over time. Sounds like you are in good hands.
