Thanks for asking dLife.
The majority of people with type 2 diabetes have insulin resistance. The insulin released by the pancreas may not be working properly.
Many people do not know that they have type 2 diabetes as it may not produce noticeable signs and symptoms. It is often diagnosed during routine labwork for an unrelated condition or procedure. Although type 2 diabetes is not known to be caused by medication, a side effect of some medications can be increased blood glucose (sugar) levels. Once the medication is discontinued, the blood glucose returns to pre-medication levels.
Type 2 diabetes tends to occur among family members. It is thought to have a genetic component. What can you do?
Overweight can contribute to insulin resistance. Sound nutrition and regular physical activity to achieve and maintain a healthy weight help to lower insulin resistance...and thereby prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.
