Missing sex drives is a problem for many people not necessarily related to diabetes, although diabetes can be a factor. There is a good discussion right here on the dLife website. Just search “sexual health” on the home page and depending on whether you are a male or female there is a lot of information for you. Diabetes can affect the sexual health of both men and women and it is usually related to nerve and blood vessel damage related to continue high blood sugars. This can show up as an inability to get and maintain an erection for men to vaginal dryness for females. There are medications and treatments available so please do not be embarrassed to talk to your doctor about this. It’s a common problem and there are treatments. In the meantime, make sure you are taking care of yourself by keeping blood sugars in control, getting enough rest, eating healthfully, and getting your ½ hour of daily exercise. Feeling good about yourself is the first step to good sexual health. But please check in with your doctor to see if there’s anything available that we can add to your daily regimen to help.
