"Hi, I been eating a no carb diet for over a year and im pre-diabetic. Im afraid adding good carbs can make my blood sugar results worse now? "

Background Info Hide
Im worried that my "true" blood sugar results are even worse since i been avoiding any carbs or sugar for such a long time. I want to start eating a moderate carb diet, and get out of ketos but i dont want my blood sugar results to take me closer to diabetes. Will eating carbs make your blood sugar worse? i understand that it will be higher after dinners but will it affect it negativly in general?

I hope by "no carb" you just mean "low carb" ... as a year would be a very long time to go without a variety of plant nutrients. If your blood sugar numbers are still in the prediabetic range and you're eating a very low carb diet, you really should talk to a doctor who is a diabetes specialist (a diabetologist or endocrinologist) and have a session with a dietitian to ensure that you are getting the full range of nutrients your body needs.

Remember that "good carbs" contain fiber and/or fat that will moderate the rise in blood sugar they cause. Avocado, nuts, beans, and berries would be a good place to start.

Best of luck to you!
