Unfortunately there are no easy answers when damage has already occurred due to retinopathy, and the additional stress of limited finances makes it even more challenging! The good news is, however, that our bodies have an incredible abillity to heal, when they receive the care they need. Your husband is not likely to recoup the vision he once had, but I have worked with patients whose vision improved as they were able to gain good control of their diabetes. It may also be helpful for your husband to visit your local “Job Force or Career Center”, as they are able to provide financial assistance to help people with visual impariments, receive training in alternative careers, as well as help in finding work which allows them to use their best abilities in gainful employment.
