"Are there any generic drugs that can replace the Januvia & Actosplus met that I am currently on? I am in the donut hole and can't afford these meds."

I have been on Januvia (100 mg) and Actosplus met (500/15) for a few years now. It is now at the point where I can no longer afford these Brand name drugs, especially now that I am in the donut hole. What generics could be used in place of these? My A1c has been running between 6.5 and 6.8 I have talked to my Doctor and she wants to put me on insulin I don't think this would end up being any less expensive because I am sure most types of insulin are also Brand names. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Dear Flannel- Thank-you for contacting dLIfe.com regarding generic substitutions for your medications. At this time there is not a substitution for Januvia. You may want to call around to identify if just buying Actos alone and Metformin (which is very inexpensive by itself) alone is cheaper.

A suggestion may be to apply to the individual drug companies that make each drug under their Pharmaceutical Programs and see if you qualify for some help.

As far as insulin goes both NPH and Regualr are affordable by many peoples standards and are not a brand name. The other insulin products are more expensive but all have the support of a Pharmaceutical Assistance Program.

I would contact your local pharmacy, Targets and large box stores to begin to shop around for options.
