The following link has information about the genetics associated with diabetes: Genetics.

Children of mothers with gestational diabetes are at a greater risk for type 2 diabetes and obesity. Is your child overweight? If your child has high blood sugar levels you need to bring her to the pediatrician right away so that the appropriate diagnosis can be made. Although your child is three years old, she may not have type 1 diabetes. Your doctor can do blood tests to determine the type of diabetes she may have. If your daughter’s blood sugar is higher than 125 fasting on more than one occasion then she probably has diabetes. Or if she has a random blood sugar greater than 200 on more than one occasion. Also, do you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes? If you are not overweight, there is a chance that you have type 1 diabetes.
