I was diagnosed as gestational diabetes about a month ago. I am 30 weeks pregnant now. I only gained 7 pounds since I got pregnant, however, I gained 35 pound last 2.5 years (before I get pregnant). Is there any possibility that I was pre-diabetic or type 2 diabetic before I got pregnant? If so, do I keep having type 2 diabetic for all my life? My 3 hours test was Fasting: 99, 1 hour: 198, 2 hours:150 (I had emergency that I could not take 3 hours one). Now, my fasting is usually 101 - 120. 1 hour after meals it is usually less than 120 (sometimes 130s). I am on oral medication now. Thank you!

Hello,
Congratulations on your new family member!
Gestational diabetes (GDM) occurs in pregnancy and resolves at delivery.
Treatment includes dietary changes and exercise. Sometimes oral medications or insulin injections are also prescribed to keep blood glucose (sugar) levels as close to normal as possible and to prevent complications in both mother and baby. Glad to hear that you are self-testing your blood glucose levels often.
Risk factors for developing gestational diabetes include overweight as well as having undiagnosed prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. You can have a blood glucose test around 6 weeks after delivery to see whether you still have diabetes. For most mothers, GDM goes away after pregnancy.
However, you are at risk of having GDM again during future pregnancies or getting prediabetes or type 2 diabetes later.
Discussion on GDM can be found on the navigation bar on the left column of the dLife webpage. Detailedl information:

It is strongly possible the weight you gained before this baby might have caused your insulin resistance. If you eat right and excercise it is possible to bring those numbers into a normal range. Since you have not been dx yet as a diabetic it is to early to say. Your fasting numbers for sure show at least predabetic range. So I would say eat right fresh foods and avoid garbage at this point, you have a chance to stop this in the bud now.
