Hello, A healthful meal plan with a variety of foods should supply most of the nutrients one needs to maintain general health. Diabetic retinopathy is caused by damage to the cells in the eye from high blood sugar levels. Extra vitamins above the recommended amounts would not be beneficial. In fact, a recent research study noted that retinopathy was not improved with intake of vitamin C or E from food alone or from food and supplements combined. Talk with a registered dietitian about establishing a healthful meal plan that meets your particular nutritional needs and help control your blood sugar level. Take care.
