Hi there - We have a vision expert, Dr. A. Paul Chous, who has addressed this very topic of macular degeneration. In it, he discusses the risk factors and while he does not specifically say type 2 diabetes causes this particular vision complication, the risk factors are the same. Improving nutrition and quitting smoking (if you do) not only improve type 2 diabetes management but it helps keep macular degeneration at bay.
