Kathy is a Certified Diabetes Educator, employed by the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation (DRWF). Her position at the Foundation includes: member of the Medical Advisory Board; operator of a national diabetes help line; and editor of the Diabetes Wellness News – a national monthly publication with approximately 20,000 subscribers that provides support to patients and families of those suffering from diabetes. The Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation is an international nonprofit foundation, which raises funds for diabetes research and offers programs to keep healthy those who are suffering from diabetes. The foundation is located in the US, UK, France, Sweden, and Germany.
Kathy provides a diabetes clinic for the Unity Health Care Clinic at the Federal City Homeless Shelter in Washington, DC. She has provided and developed staff educational programs for Unity Healthcare and the DC Primary Care Association. She is a member of the Public Affairs Committee for the American Association of Diabetes Educators and AADE Liaison for the Safe Needle Disposal Coalition; a board member of the National Capital Area American Association of Diabetes Educators; and Chairperson for the Virginia Diabetes Council. She is also the Action Committee Chairperson for Novo Nordisk’s Changing Diabetes project in the state of Maryland, a statewide web-based resource guide for individuals with diabetes launched in November 2007 – www.diabetesinformationnetwork.org
Kathy graduated from D’Youville College, in Buffalo, NY with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and received a Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Maryland. Her nursing experience is varied and she has held a variety of positions during her nursing career – at NIH Clinical Center in open heart surgery; as head nurse of a medical intensive care unity; and as a home care nurse, where she became interested in working with those suffering with diabetes.
Kathy has 3 grown children and a wonderful supportive husband who supports her in all of her projects.
