Beth McKinzie
RN, BSN, CDE
Beth became a CDE in 1987 and has successfully recertified every 5 years. She received her BSN at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Charlotte, NC in 1983. She earned her nursing diploma at the Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing, Omaha, NE in 1972. Beth is currently the Clinical Director at Comprehensive Diabetic Solutions in Tennessee.
As a CDE, Beth has provided one-to-one education for new gestational diabetes patients; preexisting diabetes patients in a high-risk OB clinic; and poorly controlled patients in an endocrine clinic. She also provided home health diabetes education to patients with gestational diabetes and pregnant patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Beth has also served in a voluntary capacity on a task force for the planning of a Comprehensive Diabetes Center of Excellence in Memphis, TN.
In 1994, Beth retired from the U.S, Navy Nurse Corps after 23 years of service. While in service, she held a variety of positions, including Director of Nursing Services; acting Commanding and Executive Officer; and Family Advocacy Rep. She provided staff education, served as a consultant to medical staff for diabetes education and patient treatment and provided direct patient care.
Beth was Head Ambulatory Care Nursing & Health Promotion Program Officer from 1990-1994. During that time she developed and implemented the Command Diabetes Education program. She also served as Nurse Manager & Patient Educator in Internal Medicine Clinic individually seeing 35 to 60 patients per month.
Beth's service in the medical field has been recognized with such awards as the Gold Standard Employee Award at UT Medical Group 1997; a nomination for Diabetes Educator of the Year 1993 in local Chapter of AADE; and multiple naval awards and medals.
