Beth McKinzie
RN, BSN, CDE
Beth became a CDE in 1987 and has successfully recertified every 5 years. She received her BSN at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Charlotte, NC. She earned her nursing diploma at the Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing, Omaha, NE . Beth is currently the Diabetes Education Program Coordinator at UT Medical Group Center for High Risk Pregnancies in Memphis, TN. She also is a certified pump trainer and has a private Diabetes & Wellness consulting business. As a CDE, Beth has provided one-to-one education & group classes for people with newly diagnosed and existing diabetes in a variety of clinic, private industry and community settings. Beth also serves in a voluntary capacity on a task force for the planning of a Comprehensive Diabetes Center of Excellence in Memphis, TN.
Beth retired from the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps after 23 years of service. While in service, she held a variety of positions, including Director of Nursing Services; acting Commanding and Executive Officer; and Family Advocacy Rep. She provided staff education, served as a consultant to medical staff for diabetes education and patient treatment and provided direct patient care.
Beth has developed, implemented and supervised Diabetes Education Programs in hospitals, outpatient clinics and community centers. She has been an expert speaker on Diabetes care and education in the local community as well as a presenter at the national meetings of the American Association of Diabetes Educators.
Beth's service in the medical field has been recognized with such awards as the Gold Standard Employee Award at UT Medical Group; a nomination for Diabetes Educator of the Year in the local Chapter of AADE; and multiple naval awards and medals.
