The Question

Anne Carroll
RN, CDE

Having been diagnosed with type 1 at the age of two, diabetes education has always been an important part of my life. I remember demonstrating giving an insulin injection to my fifth grade health class in elementary school, giving advice to my parents' friends about their diabetes care as a high school student, and, finally, receiving my degree as a Registered Nurse, followed by achieving the status of Certified Diabetes Educator, so that I can now share the knowledge I've gained, both by trial and error (being a great 'guinea pig' of meters, pumps, and medications), as well as formal education.

My current work as a diabetic educator in both the out-patient and in-patient settings qualifies me with a vast expanse of diversity. Whether I'm working individually with clients in a one on one setting, or teaching a class of pre-diabetics, I feel equally at home.

When not at work, I participate in volunteer projects with the American Diabetes Association, National Diabetes Education Program, both the Washington State and American Association of Diabetes Educators, and provide lectures for various groups and organizations in my community.

Hobbies include: singing, acting, reading, trying new recipes, wasting valuable time on the computer, and, most especially, playing with my grandchildren.
