Hi, I'm Kelley. I was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes last week. I am on pregnancy #2, almost 30 weeks, and did not have GD with my first pregnancy. I go to a class this week where they will teach me about diet choices, etc. I have already been measuring my blood sugar levels just for the past few days, and they haven't been horrible, from what I understand so far, but a little high a few times. Usually around 100 when I first get up in the morning before eating, and ranging anywhere from 105 to 150 (I've only been in the 150s twice, usually closer to 120) after meals.

Since I don't have my diet plan yet, I'm kind of stressing a little bit about making good food choices. I think the meal I'm struggling most with right now is breakfast, because so many breakfast foods are filled with carbs.

I would love to hear any stories, advice, or suggestions from those who know more about this than I do! I really want to do my best to maintain this, in hopes that I may be able to avoid labor induction and/or a c-section due to a baby that is too big, and just to keep that baby healthy! Thanks!

Welcome Keli. I don't have GD (I'm a T2). But why don't you look around the Gestational Diabetes group and start posing questions there. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to give you ideas and support.

Cheers.

Oh, I'm sorry, am I in the wrong place? I thought I was in the forum for gestational diabetes. At the top it says I am in Diabetes Community: Gestational Diabetes MomSpot. I'll keep looking around.

Dang. Keli you are right. Sometimes I see a new post and I'm so excited to welcome y'all, especially if I didn't see anyone post, that I don't look at which thread y'all are in.

My bad. Yes, you are in the right thread. Me, I'm gonna knock myself upside the head and look at the thread title first next time. :?

Cheers.

Don't worry about it! I could have very well been in the wrong place...I surely haven't made my way completely around here yet!

Hey Keli - Don't know if you've had your class yet, but rest assured they will tell you all you need to know. I agree breakfast is pretty hard - hope you like eggs! My go-to breakfast when I had GD was a Thomas light english muffin (22g carb with a lot of it fiber) with egg, cheese, maybe bacon or ham. And jalapenos, but that's just me...

Please feel free to come back with any questions, we have been there and know it can be stressful, but it is totally do-able.

Oh, and as far as I know, if you are well controlled there is no reason that you should have to have a C section or induction.

Thanks, Lizzy. I go to my class on Thursday so I am anxious to hear what they have to say. I'm not a huge eggs person (I'm really not a huge breakfast person) but I will try that a few days a week maybe. I might just have to have non-breakfast foods for breakfast!

Lots of people do that; also in your class they should give you sample meal plans and snack ideas that are within your carb limits - this was really helpful to me because they came up with some things that I wouldn't have thought of.
