Hello, my intro is in the 'Introduce Yourself' section, but my name is Amanda/Mandie I go by both..

I just started working out again a lot, and yesterday I went on a 3 mile walk/run/jog..

I started to feel crappy halfway after coming down from a high and I was wanting to know what would be good to put in my emergency pack while I'm out.

Hey, Mandie!
I have a lot of trouble working out without bottoming out, so if I'm doing aerobics, I'll drink Gatorade throughout the session. If I'm out walking I carry a small can of juice (my fav is pineapple)and a pack of cheese or peanut butter crackers. I can't stand the glucose tablets or the tubes of icing, and I don't eat candy for a low, as a general rule.
That's it for my 2 cents! :P

I always carry a small tube of glucose tabs. I like them because they don't really taste good, so I'm never tempted to eat them unless I'm hypo. I don't bring my testing equipment with me, because I'm rarely out on the road for more than 1 to 1 1/2 hours. But if you are going for long walks/runs, it might not be a bad idea.

Thank you for the replies.

I could carry glucose tabs with me again, they're small enough to put in my shoe, I don't like the icing tubes only because when I was at camp one year we got ahold of too many of the tubes [they were giving them out for free on the last day of camp 3 week session before I did the fourth week] and I got sick off of them.. I believe that if I work out in small spurts I should be okay, though I'm training to run a 13.1 mile marathon. I don't want something that's going to be as bulky as a fanny pack, but I guess I'm going to have to do something. Today I'm going on a 3.2 mile run/jog/walk and then the Elliptical machine for an hour so we shall see how things go. I do however think I'm going to take my meter with me and put in a pack of raisins. I don't have much sweets around the house, or even granola bars for instant on the go when exercising though if I'm going to continue this then I need to invest in it. What about the protein goo that's in a tube would that work as well?

Hi!

I bottom out really easily when exercising. So I test before and if I am anywhere under 130 I drink some gatorade before I work out. Depending on how long I will be running will depend on how much I will consume. After a lot of guess and check, I have come down with a equation that works for my body. I recently got a pump and I have been working on setting the basal lower before I exercise, but I have realized the exercise needs to be planned in order for this to be completely successful. If I am going to exercise an hour after eating, I will cut back my bolus by a unit. This usually helps me avoid going low. When I go for long runs I do carry my testing supplies. I got a free mini- glucose monitor which makes it easier to carry. I do have a running pack but it sits flat against my stomach under my shirt so it is not obvious at all. I have my testing supplies and I carry a tube of glucose tabs. The only reason I do that is because I hate eating something midrun and I hate carrying a water bottle. I can not feel a low coming on when I am exercising so I want to be prepared. I hope this helps!!

I wore a running belt while I was training for my half marations. In it I had gel packs, and I also had a bottle of diluted gatorade- as not to upset my stomach. I would drink a little throughout my runs- which could be as long as 2.5 hours and it really seemed to help me.
