As you later accuse me of rudeness, I hope that was purely a typo. I use wine; I don't believe I was whining. I do not intend to be rude, but I am certainly blunt at times.

but I am doing what my dr. ordered. Some people only take an aspirin also for their blood thinner, but I do as my dr. orders. And yes, with A-Fib my blood must be tested and meds adjusted, if needed. Yes, if you will look up about the warfarin or coumadin, you will see there are several green foods on there that will affect the meds. But I just thought I might get some ideas on here about different choices of foods and I took your comment as rather rude as to my meds.
I was attempting to be informative. I cannot help how you might misinterpret that. I was also implying that you may find it useful to discuss the medications you are using, and their side-effects and restrictions that they include on your lifestyle, with your doctor in detail. Your doctor may be able to prescribe an equally effective but less restrictive regimen for you.
If you never ask and simply accept the doctor's advice without question, you will never know.
My doctor does not give me orders. He knows better. He gives me advice which I discuss in detail with him before I accept it. For example, I drink wine with his knowledge despite taking metformin.
You asked for ideas about foods, I included some links answering that question. Did you click on them or read them?
Thank you, Alan, and yes, I am quite knowledgeable on my warfarin and I did not mean to imply that all greens are forbidden and I did not state that. I am sorry, but I am new on this board and new to diabetes and was just looking for some ideas that I might be able to try. I do let my dr. advise me on my meds as he is the knowledgeable one and I also check on them myself, so we work together, and I do let him tell me what he feels is best for me. So I'll just drop the subject and look for other solutions. Have a nice day!!

I'll have to agree with triker here. I too think your comment ie: "...rat poison", was out of line. My wife also has A-fib and is on Coumadin. I can assure you that if she had her druthers she would not be taking this medication and putting up with the side effects that go along with it. For her and others it is not a choice but a necessity to prevent deadly blood clots from forming.
And YES, the information sheet that comes with Coumadin does suggest that you should limit your intake of greens.

I'm sorry. I had no intention of upsetting anyone.
I presume you are aware that I was being accurate, albeit with tongue in cheek, not pejorative? Read The Legend of Warfarin.
I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago during a routine physical myself. I had never thought of the symptoms, even though, I do have significant family history of diabetes. My father, My uncle and my maternal grandfather. It wasn't until after the diagnosis that they symptoms registered. Anyway, I understand about feeling depressed. The last few weeks have a been really hard on me. I finally broke down big time last night. I sitll have to come to terms with this, but I am doing better, coming here is a big step. I'm on Actos 30mg. Hang in there. Sara

I use my diabetes as a "Be Nice To Myself" excuse. When I want a nap I take a nap. When I want to say "No" to a commitment I say no. Use it as a reason to take good care of yourself.
That's what I tell my 19 year old daughter who was just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. It will take you and my daughter some time, but try to think this way.

Good luck to you, Catcher. Was diagnosed 3 days ago myself and I'm still nowhere near completely accepting this reality. I'm a nurse, and I've seen exactly what happens when someone doesn't control their BS and it's scary. Really scary. My first reaction was terror. But mostly I was just stunned. Now I'm ready to just do what I have to do but still freaking out a bit about the whole life long aspect of it a little. I'm trying hard to see it as a huge motivator to get healthier. As for the food choices, well, I agree with what someone else said... look for healthier substitutes for the foods you give up. That can make it a little less difficult to give those up.
