I recently bought a pedometer to use as a goal setting tool for walking. The first night I used it was Halloween. What better night than the night following the kid around the neighborhood door to door to start tracking my steps. Are their any secrets to using a pedometer? I walked the neighborhood for 1 1/2 hours and my pedometer said I took 153 steps. I know that isn't right. What is the secret to an accurate reading?

Did you calibrate it for your stride?

Your pedometer should come with instructions for calibration. I don't know your particular brand but the basic steps involve attaching the pedometer, pressing a start button, taking a stride and then pressing the stop button. These steps may need to be completed a number of times so the pedometer can determine an average stride length for the user. Once this stride length has been established, the pedometer is usually ready for use.

Cheers.
