Hi my name is Jody, I have had type 1 diabetes for 24 years now. I am on an insulin pump with better control now. Not great but better. I weigh 265 pounds and am insulin resistant. If anybody out there has any helpful information on how to deal with this problem, I would love to hear from them.

Hi Jody many believe exercise combats insulin resistance. I also have been on MDI for 24 yrs but a type 2 diabetic. I also am insulin resistant. I am sure your limiting your carbs that also will help to lower the resistance.

Hi Jody...I'm Betty...almost 35 years with type 1...I'm getting ready to go on the pump. Did you find the transition hard?I am hoping it will help me lose some weight...have you had any luck with that?

Hi Betty,
The transition was not too bad, I never counted carbs, I was always on a sliding scale so I was shocked I had to count carbs. The pump is great however for me it does allow you to cheat. For instance when I just wanted to snack I would not snack because I wouldn't want to do a shot. The pump it is way easier to eat what you want. That is PART of the reason I have gained weight too. However most people I talk to don't have the same problem as I do. Good luck to you. :D

I've been watching/counting the carbs for a long time....but i did quit meausing which is a bad thing. I snack but cover with shots...I worry I'll just think I can snack all the time with the pump....my daughter is a doctor and she wants me to go on it.What do doctors think will happen when you take a drug that makes you hungry and then tell you not to eat??????Do you exercise much? Have any complications??
