I've been mysteriously absent from the blogging world again. My apologies! I've been busy with baby and holidays, and keeping myself healthy despite the viral-cold-winds that are a-blowing. With a school teacher husband, it's hard to keep germs out of the house!

I thought I'd touch base with a quick recap of the last few weeks.

I took the month of December off of blood sugar management to focus on weight loss. I rejoined Weight Watchers (I'm a lapsed lifer) and found a meeting that's more like family with a great leader, Kim. Despite the holidays, I managed to stick to the program.

If you're familiar with it, I chose the flex plan for December, as a means to get a handle on my hunger. Flex allows you to eat what you want in moderation by counting "points". I was devistated to learn its three points for two Christmas cookies--and my sister, Jacquie, makes the best Christmas cookies. Her almond horseshoe cookies (which she made into snowballs this year to save time) taste exactly like grandmas, and her seven-layer cookies are like a childhood dream-come-true. Just one taste and I should have been a goner, but I was able to keep it to just three cookies and I didn't take any to go.

Of course, after I stepped on the scale at the meeting the next day and I only lost a half pound, I regretted not bringing any home. I was completely disciplined throughout the holiday season, yet I only lost 3 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Years. I know most people gain during the holidays, but most people also indulge!

This week, I've switched to the core program, where you're allowed all you can eat of certain really healthy foods and are given weekly bonus points for food not on the plan. You can also swap exercise for more food. I'm hoping the switch will help boost my weight loss. It certainly provides motivation to exercise more--45 minutes on the bike equals one sugar-free klondike bar.

As part of the new month, I'm also tracking my blood sugar again. I have an appointment at the end of the month and need to give in three weeks worth of numbers. So far, not so good. My first reading of the year was 126. I just looked at it and said, yup, I have diabetes. I've already seen numbers over 200. Not a good way to start off, especially when you consider the fact that I'm eating healthy. I guess I'm going to need to change up my meds.

The big news of the month, and I hope I'm not jinxing myself here, is the boy is sleeping on a regular schedule now, and in his crib. I feel like I deserve two big gold stars for this. He still gets up a few times a night to eat, but its become somewhat predictable. In bed by 8, up around 2 to eat, and up around 5 to eat again. Its funny how when you go without any sleep for a few weeks, a six hour night is completely refreshing.

So, other than a nice, relaxing holiday with my family, that's about all I've been up to. I promise to be around more often in the new year, though I won't go as far as blogger Kim in making promises.

Please note my post says "IF" I were going to make resolutions, those would be the ones I made! :-) I gave myself an out!
So happy baby is sleeping better, it does make ALL the difference in the world for Mommy.

PS - EXCELLENT job on the weight loss. The average American gains 7 lbs from t-day til new year's so it's really like you lost 10!
