I was HORRIFIED earlier this month when I read Halle Berry announced she was cured of type 1 diabetes because she had "weened [sic] herself off insulin." As most readers of dLife would know, that just ain't possible (yet).

But I found this interview from December 2005 that may clear things up. She may not remember her medical history, but in this story she clearly identifies it as type 2 diabetes. And even says she was a little overweight as a teen, as though that explains it.

I was searching for news on her because I felt sure that almost 3 weeks later, she would have made a statement clarifying matters. Or apologizing for misleading MORE people about diabetes and the 2 (major) types of it. I thought it might be blog-worthy.

Interesting she hasn't said a peep. I think she just mixed up insulin-dependent with type 1. For a brief while between the names "juvenile" and "type 1" I believe it was called insulin dependent. Ironic since life in most human bodies is insulin dependent, but maybe that's why they did away with the name.

But that's all the more reason to make a statement and clear things up. We have enough confusion in the world about diabetes without a celeb muddying the waters even more.
