Just some random thoughts and factoids for you today.
- Halle Berry's baby girl weighed 7 lbs, 4 oz, so no macrosomia there. Yay Halle! Baby's name is Nahla Ariela Aubry.
- I just read a very interesting article about Metformin and it's use for insulin resistance. Funny I just blogged about this yesterday. It seems Met may lower one's risk of developing type 2, as well as increase your HDL (I thought mine was up just due to better diet).
- Vitamin D supplements in childhood *may* reduce a kid's risk of contracting type 1. This really makes me think since my vitamin D levels tested pretty low a few months ago. I think I will ask the pediatrician about supplements for my kids again. Of course, if I put them on every supplement in all the research studies that might lower their risk of auto-immune disorders, they would not have room in their little tummies to eat!
- Baby daughter's 9 month well-baby checkup was Friday. All is well, she has thinned down a little (is she MY daughter?), but doc is very happy with her, as are we.
- 2 of my "favorite" conditions - gum disease and gestational diabetes are linked in this study. Heavy sarcasm there, I read about those 2 diseases because I have personal experience with them! I think it would be a full time job just to read every news story that mentions diabetes every day!
- In more personal news, I get a gold star for minimizing the amount of Easter candy in my house and that I ingested this year. I really think Easter is becoming the spring-time Halloween and it stinks. My 4 year old is just obsessed if he knows that there is candy in the house, he whines and begs and even lies to get it. Wonder which gene he gets that behavior from?
