No, not THAT kind of change of life!  I was laid off from my job 10 days ago.  Boy, talk about a life change!  I am doing a little contract work, so I don't know what to call my current position.  "Stay at home Mom" has such negative connotations and I find "Full-time Mother" offensive because I've been a full-time mom since my son was born, regardless of my employment status.

My 4 year old has gone from 9-10 hour days at a daycare center, to 3 hours at a small local preschool.  The rest of the time he's with me.  My 14 month old is with me 24/7, or so it seems.  My husband does step up so I can maintain some other adult relationships. What those will be and how often I'll get a night off remain to be negotiated.

I am much too close to the kitchen all the time.  I have little voices telling me to buy cookies and candies or stop for ice cream - no, I'm not  schizophrenic, it's my 4 year old.

On the other hand I have the time now to exercise, so I signed up at a fitness center.  It doesn't have all the bells and whistles - no pools, hot tubs or showers, but it is very affordable and has a kid's room with attendant.   And I even prepaid for 20 personal trainer sessions.  So far, I've gone 6 times in 10 days.  It doesn't seem to be affecting my sugar yet, I still go high after lunch if I don't balance my carbs well enough.

My trainer's mother has Type 2, and didn't manage to arrest it when it was still pre-diabetes.   She's working out now in hopes of reversing the diagnosis.  I didn't tell him that you don't reverse Type 2, you just control it with diet and exercise.  I also heard the "It's not 'bad', she doesn't take insulin".

There it is.  That mindset that taking insulin makes your diabetes worse somehow.  I just didn't feel like educating him.  He's the trainer and in our dynamic he should be the health expert. I don't know, I just really didn't feel like giving the Type 2 diabetes 101 class today.
