I took Olivia to the pediatrician on Monday, to go over the blood work. Everything came back fine. Perfect. So this stomach thing has all of us stumped now.
I have a referral to a gastroenterologist because the pediatrician doesn't know what's wrong with Olivia. Fantastic.
The celiac panel came back negative, which was nice, although I've since read on the CWD parents mailing list that kids can have celiac without having symptoms or a funky blood test. That makes no sense to me, but people are saying they eliminated gluten from their children's diets and the stomach issues went away. Something to ask about, I guess.
I'm also supposed to keep a food diary. This should be easy, right? Only it's not. I don't dole out Olivia's food. She's 13 and gets her own snacks and sometimes her own meals, if I'm not around. I don't sit there, watching her every bite. And she SWAGs it, too. She's actually pretty good at that. It must be the years of practice.
I really was hoping to have an answer to this. I'm back to leaning towards nerves/stress/being a teenager. I honestly don't know. Hopefully the gastro person has something more concrete for me.

Not sure if this is the best place to put this or not but I just heard about a great program at Diabetes Contol for Life
Julia,
Wow, this is frustrating!! The food journal is a pain in the rear but might be a good idea. I use the DietMinder by MemoryMinder Journals. Look on amazon and you can get them cheep! Throw it on the counter and have her keep track for a few weeks. You would be suprised what you can find out.
Reading above you about low's during aunt flo.. Can she have cramps or low's from that?
Maybe even a litte acid reflux.
I was dealing with my 13 yr old daughter yesterday and it's the first day of swimming and aunt flo.. Wow, does it get harder and harder to talk to a 13 year old about that stuff.
Hang in there!! They will find something! I remember being that age. The stress and peer pressure and being diabetic too! We will say some prayers for you!!

Hiya J (Scott J here)!
For what it's worth, my dad struggles with a similar thing. His blood work and other tests came back negative, but when he eliminated gluten from his diet he felt much better.
Hey Julia,
I wouldn't normally comment along the lines of "have you thought of this?", but Olivia's stomach problems sound so familiar. When my daughter was 13, out of the blue she developed the same sorts of stomach issues. After a bit of detective work, we decided to eliminate lactose from her diet - lactose is found in many, many foods. It was like a miracle, all the symptoms including the vomiting and cramps disappeared. Later, my daughter began using a product called "Dairy Care" and was able to go back to eating foods with lactose. Five years later, the lactose intolerance has disappeared. We have no idea why.
Good luck finding a cause and solution for Olivia!
