What I really need is a good online diabetes-related battle. Nothing lights up the 'ole blog switchboard like a feud. I came across a rather heated one in the blogosphere recently. So lucky. All I ever get is nothing but stinkin' compassion and support. Anyone got a beef with me? Anyone? Come on, don't make me beg.
Type 2s? Come on, type 2s. When was the last time I addressed your concerns? How about like never. All I do is talk about my type 1 son. Booooring!
Type 1s? Come on, hit me!
I thought I had a real shot with the Sotomayor piece, but unfortunately most of those who commented, directed their anger not at me but instead at the fictional characters I created. Sigh.
In the very early days of Blogabetes, however, I did have a little run-in with another parent of a child with diabetes. It completely caught me off guard. Prior to Blogabetes, I wrote a blog called Up High, Down Low. I've since let the weeds grow wild on that blog, but during the run of UHDL, never was there a nasty comment. Each and every comment was altruistic in nature and it functioned as you would expect it to; like a support group. And those were much more difficult times with Charlie. I treasured that support.
So maybe I was a bit naïve. I had thought we were all in this together. I had no idea that these civil wars could exist within the diabetes community. I thought we were fighting the same public enemy.
I was seething mad at the time and I wrote a scathing blog post in response to the parent. I still have it here in my folder. It's called Carbe Diem. I never did post it. I couldn't. I guess I never will. I don't like war.
Well, anyway, that's that. Have I pissed anyone off yet? Come on, people!
It's Friday and you know what that means …
It's time to play our favorite diabetes picture game …
Shout it with me Wheel of Fortune-like …
HIGH. OR. LOW?
Tell me. In this picture, is Charlie very high or very low?
Or maybe he looks that way because he wants to kill the jerk-head taking his picture while he clearly feels like crap.
What kind of a father does this?
Ooh, controversy!

I meant "lack willingness"not "lack unwilligness"
