In a letter obtained by Blogabetes, Ira Selik, retired professor of anthropology at the University of Buffalo and current ShopRite supermarket deli clerk, said that in his 13 years of slicing meats and cheese for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, she has "always demonstrated proper judgment in making low-carb choices."

"Sonia usually goes with Black Forest ham, thinly sliced; a half-pound of Jarlsberg cheese and a quarter-pound of honey maple turkey … all good options for a person with diabetes," Professor Selik went on to say.

"I have no reason to believe that she won't have a long and successful tenure as a Supreme Court justice."

However, skeptics have lashed out at President Barack Obama's Supreme Court justice nominee in recent weeks.

"Yeah, I read the report from Sotomayor's doctor in Huffington Post the other day, assuring the nation that she has excellent control of her diabetes and a great A1c, blah, blah, blah. Sorry, but I'm not buying it. She came to my school in April for a special visit and I found something very troubling. In a rather remedial Where's Waldo beach scene, it took her over 12 minutes to find Waldo. Come. On! 12 minutes??? Are you kidding me? He was on the lifeguard stand with sunscreen on his nose! How can you not see that?" Isabel Stall said.

"Diabetic retinopathy? I'm just sayin' …," the PS 170, Bronx, NY, third-grader added.

Ben Gleck, television host and political commentator, went one step further, saying that it was Sotomayor's racist comments in 2001 that caused her diabetes in the first place.

When told that Sotomayor had developed diabetes in 1962 at the age of 8, Gleck looked at his watch and said "I have a thing." He then transformed into a black serpent of smoke and disappeared into a manhole.

But in a final vote of confidence, Grace Hester, who once stood behind Sotomayor in line to buy a hot dog at a New York Yankees baseball game, submitted her own letter on the judge's behalf regarding her diabetes.

To Whom It May Concern,

I don't even think she has diabetes anymore. She must have outgrown it. In the time I spent with her, I never saw her do anything diabetish. Not only that, she was like begging the guy at the hot dog stand for a Coke; Insisting that she had to have it "right now!.". Don't diabetics like die if they have something with sugar in it? Sure, she was sweating like my Uncle Tommy at a Ted Nugent concert, but that doesn't mean she won't be a bitchin' Supreme Court justice. Women Rock!
