Olivia told me the other day that she was nearly out of test strips. I dutifully called in the refill and went to pick them up today.

When I got to the pharmacy, I gave him Olivia's insurance card. O is on her father's soon-to-be-ex-wife's insurance.

I know, it's confusing, but I don't really want to get into all of that garbage on here. Suffice it to say, her dad's not really, uh, involved in Olivia's life. It's been a year and a half since he's seen her. He lives an hour away. Somehow, there's always something more important. It's beyond infuriating. But I digress.

Aaaanyway. When I gave the pharmacist the insurance card, he said the insurance would only cover 5 tests a day and that the copay was $152. For 150 test strips. I very nearly fell over. I don't have $152. So, I bought 25 test strips (for $25, and holy CRAP, why are these damn things so expensive????) and left the pharmacy, trying to remember how many other meters and test strips we had at the house.

A little over a year ago, we had the same problem and people from the diabetes online community absolutely inundated me with test strips. It was unbelievably generous and rather overwhelming and I'm still thankful to everyone. I knew I still had a bunch of Precision Extra test strips somewhere in the diabetes cabinet - this disease takes up a lot of space - and was really hoping that they'd made it in our recent move.

Braving Olivia's disaster area of a room, I found the cabinet. And I found about 12 blood glucose meters. I could have made up a Christmas carol:
FIIIIIIVE One Touch Ultras,
Four Precision Extras,
Three Contours,
Two Ascencia Breeze
and a One Touch Ultra Mini.

One of the Contours had about 10 test strips with it, so I set that one aside. I found the Precision meter, and the battery even worked, but I couldn't find the strips. Where were the stupid strips?

I ransacked the cabinet. Finally, I found them, tucked away behind the bajillion infusion sites, I found a stash of Precision strips. At least 100. So we're good. My husband's insurance kicks in on April 1st and I will order test strips immediately. Right now, we have about 80 One Touch strips and 100 Precision, so unless something extraordinary happens between now and the 1st, it should be smooth sailing. It was a bit of a nail biter for a moment, but now, it's all good. Phew.

AND! I've been logging. I know! It's amazing, isn't it? I'm rather pleased with myself.
