I guess word didn't get to DexCom that I'm the world's most impatient person.
I really tried to wait patiently until my new contraption arrived, but when it got to be almost past the amount of time I was quoted for shipping, I decided to call.
"Hi, J. I know we had a holiday in there, but we're at the tail end of the three to five business days you said it would take to get my DexCom. So I'm wondering if you can track the package for me so I can know more specifically when to expect it. You have all my numbers…talk to you soon."
Fortunately, J called back fairly quickly, but with the time difference between Arizona and the East Coast, she was only in the office for another 10 minutes. She had put in a request from purchasing to get the tracking number, but with only 10 minutes left in her working day she didn't think she'd have an answer for me that day. (Hasn't anyone heard of putting in a little extra time to make sure a customer is happy?)
The next day I expected a call pretty early in the morning, but had to call J to check in. She still didn't have a tracking number and hampering our efforts was that the "normal person" who handles this type of request was off. J assured me she was still working on it and would get back to me as soon as she could.
I was certain that when I got home that evening the package would be waiting for me. Because that's how things work in my life — I get fired up about something that often doesn't need to be fired up about.
As I was walking out the door yesterday, my hands piled with things to take home, my cell phone rang.
"Hi Michelle this is [can't remember his name!] from DexCom. We found the package of sensors…"
"No, it's supposed to be a starter kit," I said.
"Oh, right. Well, we found it. It seems that when we wrote "Ship to this address per S's instructions" our shipping team misunderstood and shipped it to S because sometimes the sales reps hand deliver the packages to their customers," he said.
"Oh. So it's in Vegas and I'm in Phoenix?" Rhetorical mixed with sarcasm.
"Yes, so S is going to overnight it to you tomorrow and you should have it no later than Monday depending on whether he can get a Saturday delivery."
"Ok. Well thanks for calling and I appreciate you following up on this," I said.
And the irony of it all is that I've had a package of sensors sitting on my dresser for a week just begging to be used.
