Diabetes Mine

Three weeks now I have been waiting for OmniPods new personal diabetes manager (PDM) to arrive. It was actually a chance phone call to OmniPods customer service number that gave me word about this new product. I was nearing the last days in my previous place of residence and called to change the address on file for my automatic pod shipments. Near the end of this phone call, the service rep mentioned a promotion for a new PDM they were launching. For one hundred fifty bucks, an existing customer could upgrade to the new device which has a larger, color display, replaceable glass screen (which will be nice since my current one ended up cracking), newly designed buttons as well as all the goodies of the first generation PDM.

A quick exchange of credit card info and updated mailing address a couple of days later and the OmniPod representative told me the PDM would ship June 15th. It should have been here by now. I have high confidence in the team working at Insulet, as they have not let me down yet and have, in fact, provided wonderful service in the past 18 months I have been a customer. But my excitement and hopeful optimism for an increased user experience with this next generation product is turning into mild frustration and curious desire to know what the holdup is.

I will give the Monday through Friday crew at Insulet a call after this weekend to get an update. I have read some responses from people who have already received theirs, so I know it is just a matter of time now. So far, there has been good news to report... and I am ready to shed some myself in quick time.

We got it and I love the new PDM. You forgot to mention that the new PDM lets you download through Abbott's Co-Pilot software- you should see the reports- AWESOME!!!!!
I didn't know that the new screen is replaceable that is a true godsend as my son regularly cracks his.
Potential bad news for you though, insulet maintains 2 address files and even though you gave them the new address your pdm might have gone to the old address. This happened to us a year after we moved and we needed to get a replacement PDM. We had already rec'd many shipments of pods without a glitch, but the PDM went astray. Hope that is not what happened in your case- I guess you'll find out monday. Don't worry when you eventually get it, it will have been well worth the wait!

It was worth the wait... and yes they sent it to the wrong address even after I tried to ensure that didn't happen. It is in my hands now and I am glad to have it!

All sounds good. Unfortunatly for me, recently my husband lost his job and health insurance, because of cutbacks. Right away I called an OmniPod Sales Rep. to ask for some assistance with the Pods. After a few weeks went by, I was told they couldn't do anything for me and that they didn't have a plan in place for this kind of situation. OmniPod turned a deaf ear to us. My husband and I were extremely disappointed. We bought into the system 2 years ago, when a sales rep. demonstrated it at our house. We found it to be a convienient and progressive way to administer insulin. Now, after 2 years of that convienence, I am having to deal with sticking myself again..."Blast from the past."

Bottomline: OmniPod was not supportive to me in my time of need. So I will not be going back to OMNIPOD and supporting them.

Unless OmniPod establishes a backup plan for this type of situation, many more will be disappointed.

I have been a pump user for about 6 years now, and I have been quite happy with my Deltec Cozmo. I was recently encouraged to look into my other options because Smith Medical will no longer be supplying the U.S. with Cozmos. After much research, I have narrowed my choices down to the OmniPod and the Animas. Here are my thoughts: after more than 20 yrs of multiple daily injections of insulin, the pump was a huge improvement in my life. Sure, it has some annoying features that I've had to adjust to...but, all in all I love my pump. So, the Animas seems like a fine choice as it is quite similar. In fact, it has some newer technological advances I would like to try out. Then, there's the OmniPod. No tubing sounds like a great idea. However, I have read many many postings online about negative features, such as adhesive problems (falling off), delivery problems, very high sugars, and high cost of supplies. I have read a few positive comments about the OmniPod, but there are certainly more negative ones out there. Here are my options at this point: (1) keep my current pump until it dies, (2) trade in my Cozmo and get an Animas pump system, or (3) try out the OmniPod system. Do any of you have any thoughts?

nuttmeg27, I have used OmniPod for 2 years. Yes, there is a certain amount of convienence, however, the negatives outweigh the positives. And now, the "sugar-free" ICING on the "low carb CAKE", is that OmniPod was not willing to step up to the plate recently when my husband lost his job his health insurance. They turned a deaf ear to us. Sorry to say,
they won't get my support again.
