This weekend was a busy one. Typically we are busy folk. It seems there is always an event, party, meeting, or whatnot to attend. This weekend was no different.
I had a happy and successful start to Saturday with a loss on the old Weight Watchers scale. The weather was perfect which was both bitter and sweet since most of the country is having horrible weather. But living in Southern California has its definite pluses and minuses. The next stop was a friends Baby Shower in which all the guys were going to hang out at the house with the dad-to-be as the gals had the shower somewhere else.
In getting ready to leave I quickly checked the very manly bag I carry all of my diabetes supplies in. I noticed that my vial of strips was running low. I also noticed that my prescription has been refilled but not picked up. I hop in the car and run to local pharmacy to pick them up when I hear my pump shout, "Beep Boop Beep!"
Today I need to change my infusion set and refill the old reservoir. I call my house to have someone pull my insulin out of the refrigerator and leave on my desk. My daughter answers and agrees to take on the task at hand. Perfect. I picked up the strips and headed home.
When I got home I heard the hum of the blow dryer in the bathroom and the beeping of video games coming from my son's room. I walked over to my desk to find not only my insulin sitting there but also an infusion set, reservoir, and an I.V. prep pad.
Sometimes we tend to think of our diabetes team as our doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals but the most important are those in our families. Our spouses, children, brothers, sisters, parents, friends, and other relatives. They are with you all the time and can be there. To know that my 9 year old daughter would pull all the stuff I need to change my set without even asking is amazing.
My team rocks!
