I have officially started my new job and I am excited about the potential that lies ahead. For a while now I have been chasing after the opportunity to work for this company and I'm at a point where I feel comfortable sharing more about it. While I am employed full time with my new job I will also continue to do some personal training and be a blogger for dlife. So anyway, enough of the dancing around,I am now a full-time employee of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and I am really happy about it.
My job will revolve around reaching out to others, providing support, and facilitating relationships with the JDRF and the newly diagnosed and their families. This job has a very special meaning to me because of the enjoyment I get from connecting to other people associated with diabetes. Reaching out is what I love to do and it is something that I have done since I was diagnosed. I remember how lonely I was in the beginning and how awesome it felt to connect with people who were going through the same thing. I still feel that way today and I feel very fortunate to have met a number of people through this site and others.
I look forward to maintaining the relationships I have made and I see the potential with my new job and blogabetes. With JDRF I am getting the opportunity to travel and do many new and exciting things and I look to forward to sharing that with all of you. Just this week, for example, I am learning the importance of booking a hotel room that has a refrigerator and a freezer to keep my insulin and insulin holder cold! Stay tuned to my blog for more information and feel free to leave a comment below.
Thanks for reading, -Andy.

Hi Andy - Congrats on the new job! Someday I hope to work with JDRF, ADA, or another D-related organization.
I emailed someone either at JDRF or ADA a couple of weeks ago looking to volunteer to help educate, spend time with, etc, newly diagnosed T1s and children with T1, and haven't heard back yet. Do you have any ideas of how I can help?
Thanks!
definately mathvxn, thanks for the comment. That's awesome that your looking to help. Have you tried contacting your local JDRF or ADA office/chapter by phone? These organizations need your help, so don't give up until you speak directly with someone that can get you going..who knows maybe you and I will be speaking soon? You can email me your zip code and I can help get you in touch with somebody quickly1 Thanks again sir, roscobell27@yahoo.com
Congrats Andy!
Congratulations! How nice to have a job that you're obviously VERY excited about.
Thank you collennh and skjohn8. I appreciate your kind words :)
-Andy.
Adding to the congratulations...
Adding to the hotel-room thing: (1) if you let the hotel management know you have special needs (i.e., the fridge/freezer for medical reasons), they can usually accommodate you even if they don't provide those standard.
Some hotels have in-room microwaves standard. If you can find out where to find your favorite "I know I can find appropriate food here" places in the area, you can maintain some semblance of a healthy diet while on the road.
Many hotels now have health-clubs or gyms, even if they don't have swimming pools. These are often stripped down, and not always in the best of repair, but they are *there*. OTOH, you may find that you are being scheduled for so many hours in the day that using the gym eats into the too-few hours of sleep that you are allowed.
At any rate, have fun with the new job!
Thank you tmana :) That's great info :) I had to laugh when you mentioned "I know I can find appropriate food here"...I'll have to blog about my experience with that this week. I found myself hoofing it to the nearest convenient store where it took me like 30 minutes to shop for descent "healthy" food!
good info again,,thanks. -Andy
Andy,
I have to admit that sometimes I get more satisfaction from my paycheck than from the work I do. I doubt that will be the same for you! Congratulations. You are going to be a great asset to JDRF. Talk to you soon.
-Kirk
Thanks Kirk. I appreciate it man. Your reply about your paycheck had me rollin, that's all too true. We've all had those jobs...and I'm going to try my hardest not to ever have another one of those! I know this job will work out because it's what I love to do. Thanks again man, i'll be calling you soon to chat. -Andy
Congratulations. Did you find a cure yet?
Thanks mark r....I appreciate it...however, I personally have not found a cure yet, ..but I know the company I work for will! :) talk with you soon. -Andy
